"The purpose of a company is not to make money. It makes money to do what it's really all about: we're here to create things, where if we didn't create them, the world would be worse off."
- Dave Packard / Hewlett-Packard
Momo is an internet startup founded in late 2007. We are saying mum until we launch publicly to keep things simple. And only time will tell if we are on to something big. We also thought this would be way easier that its turned out to be, but we are still plugging away on a bootstrapped budget. No outside funding, no worries.
In fact, we have found that the greater the challenge (time, money), the better our ideas get... take our website: it's pretty basic, gets the job done, yet still manages to have some flair (try clicking the big logo). And it allows us to focus our energy on trying to walk the walk instead of just talking the talk (which we still feel compelled to do from time to time; see below).
When we grow up we will* be a social enterprise, which means we will make money by solving social problems (big nod to Grameen Bank). As for now, we're focused on doing the right thing** and making it profitable.
So if you need a takeaway message, here it is: we are doing what we love, we're pretty sure we're the best at it, and one of these days it's going to pay the bills. That's it. That's Momo.
* A wise man once told us to always speak about our goals as if they're bound to happen; we thought that was good advice.
** The "right thing" is of course totally subjective. But if you think we are completely full-of-it, please let us know. One thing we will never claim to be is omniscient.
